BEFORE RECORDING
As your scoring mixer, I am dedicated to recording and mixing music for film, TV, or games—whether it’s a dramatic score, a catchy song for an animated feature, or any other musical element of the soundtrack.
I believe that strong pre-production is key to a smooth recording process. That’s why I prioritize clear communication with composers to develop a plan that aligns with the intended sound, overall mood, and creative direction. By understanding what elements need to be separated in the mix, we can ensure that every detail is perfectly crafted.
RECORDING
During the scoring stage, I handle all the technical aspects of the orchestral setup: microphones, placement, signal flow, levels, and most importantly, a great live surround mix while the orchestra is being recorded. My goal is to provide a well-balanced mix that allows the composer, booth reader, and music editor to identify any necessary adjustments in performance or score.
Think of me as an additional "set of ears" during the session. While I play a crucial role in the control room, I value the collaborative effort with the Recordist, Pro Tools Operator, and Cue Mixer to achieve the best possible outcome.
MIXING
In the mixing sessions, my focus is on ensuring that melodies, harmonies, and counter-melodies are clear and impactful. I meticulously balance the mix while viewing the video to enhance the music’s emotional effect on the scene.
My approach is grounded in teamwork. Through my work, I aim to elevate the composer’s vision, ensuring that their music shines in the eyes of the director and beyond.
