Q: Do you mix in Dolby Atmos?

A: Yes, our studio has a calibrated 7.1.4 speaker system to properly mix in immersive - both Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio (5+5+3).

 

Q: Do you have experience recording an orchestra?

A: YES! For Film, TV, and Game Scores or for a pop song, Brian has had experience working with orchestral recording since 1993. After years of a Recordist, he now is a Scoring Mixer, recording and mixing.

 

 

Q: Do you travel to record?

A: Yes, Brian is based in Los Angeles but travels to record, including NYC and London (Abbey Road Studios). 

 

 

Q: Is your studio set up to mix a Film/TV/Game Score?

A: Brian records in a scoring stage or studio and mixes in his private studio, set up for mixing scores in 5.1 surround. The studio is also set up for Atmos, but theatrical Atmos is better mixed at the Dub Stage.

Q: How long does it take to mix a song?
A: While it depends on the size of the session, number of tracks, the complexity of the music, etc., it GENERALLY takes two days per song once there is an opening in the schedule. Given the fact that every song gets the proper attention it deserves both technically and more importantly, CREATIVELY, a minimum of 12–18 hours is spent on each song.

Q: During the mix process, is my input welcomed?
A: As an artist, nobody knows the music better than YOU!   While Brian does experiment with different creative ideas throughout the recording and mixing process, it is to ENHANCE the song and stay true to the lyrics.   Through email and phone communication, the intended sound will be achieved, while still staying within your budget.

Q: If I am not familiar with the studios in the Los Angeles area, can you help me choose a studio for recording?
A: Yes.   Together we can choose the best studio for your musical, technical, and budgetary needs.

Q: What is your availability?   How far in advance do I need to book your services?
A: As with any services, the farther in advance, the better.   Of course, sometimes projects get postponed, so there are occasionally last-minute openings. We can usually mix a song within 2 weeks.

Q: What styles of music do you record or mix?
A: Since Brian listens to and understands many styles of music, he records and mixes many different styles including rock, pop, latin, jazz, contemporary classical, orchestral, blues, R&B, Hip Hop, and World Music.  Brian also records and mixes orchestras for Film, TV, and Game Scores.

Q: Can I have you mix one song before I commit to you mixing the entire project?
A: Of course.

Q: What is the best way to send my files to you to be mixed?
A: The most efficient way is to send files via Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Q: What types of file format should I send?
A: WAV files, 44.1k thru 192k, 24 bit or 32 bit. If your files are coming from Digital Performer, CuBase or Logic, we will give you detailed instructions of the best way to prepare the files. Please send the Pro Tools session if that is the DAW you are using.
